San Marino is a small country located in the Apennine Mountains of Italy. It has been an independent republic since 301 AD, with a population of just over 33,000 people. In this blog post, we will explore San Marino’s rich history and natural beauty as well as their attractions for travelers!
Guaita Tower – Constructed in the 12th century, this tower is one of three towers that was built to defend against invaders.
San Giovanni Battista Church – Built during the 14th century, it has a very unique design! The façade features eight red tiles on each side which represent all major cities located within its territory at that time (including Rimini). There are also two lions guarding over either entrance door! Inside contains paintings created by Guercino, a famous artist during the Baroque period.
Fontevecchia Fountain – This fountain is one of many fountains located throughout San Marino’s capital city. It was built in 1600 and features beautiful statues that depict different scenes from Greek mythology!
Monte Titano – This mountain range is the highest point in San Marino. It offers gorgeous views of both Italy and the Adriatic Sea!
Tartini Square – This square located within the capital city was named after a famous composer, Giuseppe Tartini. The statue found here features him holding his violin while standing atop a pedestal decorated with six musical notes from his most popular compositions.
Palazzo Pubblico- This palace is the seat of government and was first constructed during the 13th century. It features a 12-sided, three story tower known as Torre Guaita which has been used for defense purposes since its construction in the 11th century!
Falesia second Tower – This is a more modern tower which was built in the 20th century. It offers beautiful views of San Marino and surrounding areas!
Basilica Of San Marino – This church was built in the 14th century and features beautiful paintings of saints. It also contains a crypt that holds the remains of two former rulers!
Italian Theater – This theater is known for its architecture during 1920s which makes it quite unique among other theaters around Italy. There are often opera performances held here, as well as ballets or concerts featuring classical music!
Museum San Marino – This museum is located within the capital city and showcases many of San Marino’s historical artifacts. There are paintings, clothing worn by former rulers, maps, weapons used for defense purposes as well as coins depicting different periods in history!
Rocca Guaita – This castle was first constructed during the 12th century. It contains a large collection of paintings on display which depict different periods in history!
Wax Museum – This museum offers a unique and entertaining way to explore San Marino’s history! Visitors can see replicas of former rulers, popes as well as important artists throughout time.
Maranello Rosso Ferrari Museum – This museum is located within the capital city of San Marino. It features exhibits about iconic Ferrari cars, as well as having a beautiful collection of classic automobiles on display!
Church Of Our Lady Of The Assumption – This is one of many churches in San Marino which was built in 13th century and reconstructed in 1720. Visitors can see unique paintings depicting biblical stories during both periods when it was constructed!
