I took a drive from the provincial capital of Ontario to reach the city of Hamilton. No doubt, it is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway. There are various things to do and see here. In case you are visiting the city any time soon, here are some of the things you can do.
- Stroll around the Castle
Built in the 1930s, the Dundurn Castle is an impressive mansion. It is situated on York Boulevard. The city had bought the castle in the year 1900. It has been opened for public visiting since then. The castle is surrounded by green grounds. I also visited the Hamilton Military Museum and the Cockpit Theatre.
- Check out the Flying Lancaster Bombers of the World
Visit the Canadian Warplane Museum to check out one of the two flying Lancaster Bombers. Other things that you will find here are Hawker Hurricane, Bristol Bolingbroke, and Spitfire. I found 36 military jets in here along with helicopters and propeller-driven aircraft. Anything that had been used by the military of Canada in the Second World War is showcased here. The best part about some of the aircraft in here is that they can fly and you can take a trip in them.
- Go Exploring the Navy Ship
The tribal destroyer which had been used in the Second World War, Cold War, and also Korean War, HMCS Haida is on display in this city. You will find it on the Pier 9 at the waterfront. It is a National Historic Site as the ship has been turned into a museum. You can opt for the self-guided tours. Check out the ship decks and envisage yourself as a member of the crew. There are also guided tours which are the one I availed since I wanted to learn more about the ship.
